bremmer_calmontIn 2008, Ulli Stein, Tobias Hannemann, Sebastian Graeber, and I hiked up Bremmer Calmont, one of the steepest vineyards in Europe, on a wintry Saturday afternoon. Ulli Stein of Weingut Stein buys the grapes from growers who have well-placed plots of old Riesling vines in Calmont. The Steins, however, harvest the grapes themselves.

See Ulli Stein's manifesto "A Call to Action" for more details on saving old Riesling vines.

The best-known producer in Bremmer Calmont is Franzen, which is now run by Kilian Franzen and his wife, Angelina. ♦
