Ellergrub in Snow
- by Lars Carlberg
Here’s a shot of Weiser-Künstler’s core vineyard in Enkircher Ellergrub, one of the top sites on the Mosel. Ellergrub is marked first-rate (in dark red) on the 1897 Mosel-Weinbau-Karte, the Prussian winegrowing map of the Mosel for the administrative district of Koblenz.
Their old, low-yielding Riesling vines are on terraces and originally belonged to Immich-Batterieberg, which still holds, a little further downriver (on the photo, to the left of Weiser-Künstler's parcel), a top-notch section in Ellergrub with a high proportion of ungrafted old vines as well.
So far, this winter has been rather mild, hence no snow in the Mosel Valley. ♦
